Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 October 2026
This page explains what information The English Language Ladder collects, why, and what choices you have about it. Our goal is to safeguard the privacy of all our users. Please make sure you understand our practices before you use our site.
Who we are
The English Language Ladder ("we", "us") provides online English language courses, including Spelling, Grammar, and related learning materials. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, you can reach us at contact@theenglishlanguageladder.com.
What information we collect
We collect the following information when you use our site or courses:
- Email address — when you sign up for a free course module, purchase a course, download free resources, or subscribe to updates.
- Password — if you create an account. This is handled entirely by our authentication provider (Firebase Authentication) and is never visible to us in plain text.
- Course progress — which modules you've completed, so your progress is saved and available across devices.
- Payment information — if you purchase a course, payment is processed entirely by Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider. We never see or store your card details ourselves.
How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- Give you access to the course(s) you've signed up for or purchased.
- Save and sync your progress across devices.
- Send you course-related emails (like password resets or "course unlocked" notices)
- Send you updates, new course announcements, and free resources — only if you've opted in.
- Process payments and deliver the correct course(s) after purchase
We do not sell your information to third parties, and we do not use it for advertising.
Third-party services we use
We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run this site:
- Firebase (Google) — for account login and storing your course progress
- Lemon Squeezy — for processing course purchases; they handle all payment card data directly
- Flodesk — for sending emails (course notifications and, if you opt in, newsletter updates)
- Netlify — for hosting this website
- Google Fonts (Google) — for the fonts used on this site; loading them means Google receives visitors' IP addresses
- Heyzine — for the interactive flipbook on our eBook page, which is another third party
Each of these providers has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data on our behalf.
Children's privacy
Our courses support learners of all ages and are often used by children with the involvement of a parent, guardian, or teacher. Creating an account requires an email address; we ask that an adult set up and manage any account on behalf of a young learner. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without appropriate parental or guardian involvement, please get in touch with us at contact@theenglishlanguageladder.com, and we will delete it.
How long we keep your information
We keep your account and course progress information for as long as your account remains active, so you can continue accessing your course(s) and progress. If you'd like us to delete your account and data entirely, contact us and we'll action this promptly.
Your rights
Wherever you're located, you can ask us at any time to:
- See what information we hold about you.
- Correct any inaccurate information.
- Delete your account and associated data.
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails (there's an unsubscribe link in every email we send)
If you're in the UK or EU, these rights are given to you under UK/EU data protection law (UK GDPR / GDPR). To exercise any of these rights, email contact@theenglishlanguageladder.com.
Cookies and local storage
Our course apps use your browser's local storage to keep things like your login session and course progress working smoothly — this stays on your own device and isn't shared with third parties beyond what's described above. We don't use tracking or advertising cookies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as the site evolves. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
